So I finally got my copy of The Lion King today! It was the first time I’ve seen this movie since I was about 8 or 9. It’s been almost 13 years, and may I say, Disney has a way with IT. Story Line. Character Development. Animation. Musical Scores. Merchandising. Magic!

There’s just something amazing about Disney movies because it caters to every child; 3 years old or 68 years young. I listened to the lyrics of the songs, paid closer attention to the dialogue, and appreciated the animation more than ever (esp. because it’s on Blu-Ray). I watched it with my younger cousins (about 10 years younger) and realize that I laughed at different parts. It wasn’t because we share different senses of humor, but because whatever was going on was meant for different audiences. The crazy thing is that Disney has a way to attract an audience of any age or generation. Disneyland attracts thousands of people a day, children of all ages. And I’m starting to realize it more and more as I see it.

I took a film class about Disney and learned to appreciate Walt Disney so much more. Looking back, I don’t remember too much about some of the films, so it has become my journey to rediscover the magic, much like I did tonight with The Lion King. I urge you fans to learn more! To really understand and appreciate all the work that is put in to the “classics” and see why they are that way. I hope you’ll see your favorites in a whole new light.

The Lion King is a perfect example of a child learning to rediscover something that was there but forgotten. Disney has been ingrained into most of us, but that doesn’t mean we have seen everything. Don’t be fooled. I am not some poor sap who has been sucked into some corporate ploy (even though we are), but someone who has come to revision the magic that made our childhoods so grand. It’s the Circle of Life!
